Given that technology push and design-driven innovation are closely linked, design is critical for high-tech firms and their <a class="zem_slink" title="Research and development" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Research_and_development" target="_blank" rel="wikipedia">R&amp;D</a> departments. If investigations into radical new technologies should go hand in hand with investigations into radical new meanings, then R&amp;D cannot be immune to design.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">The programme of the workshop was very interesting and systematic. The lecturer definitely respected all the rules a person should follow when giving a presentation. I have been to many seminars before but some only seemed like a waste of time. I was pleasantly surprised by Marko Savić in the role of a lecturer. The material was presented in a clear and understandable manner and the connection of different parts of the workshop was done in an appropriate way.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">Practical video examples and group work, especially playing the &#8220;Build a tower, build a team&#8221; exercise, were very interesting. Creation itself on the business model canvas seemed a bit too short with short time for individual analysis. Here I think the lecturer should take more time to explain where the errors were and in which direction groups should continue. Of course it is hard to judge whether this concept would be time appropriate due to only one day duration of the workshop especially because of the large number of participants at the workshop.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">At work I solve communication challenges for a wide variety of companies and organizations. Lately, I have noticed that the vast majority of organizations are somehow lost as the market in Slovenia reacts mostly to price. It is difficult for the businesses to admit that, especially the ones that have been on the market for some time. Price sensitivity, we know, is not something on which to bet, as there always may be someone who is and will be cheaper. So how do we design strategic communication, which should follow company&#8217;s business strategy?</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">Workshop <em>Design your new business models</em> opened a new important aspect for me. Companies need to move away from business strategies / plans / visions / actions (or nothing!), into the reflection of the business model. The model that is presented is about the change of thinking and people working in design business can quickly adopt it and apply it. Since it is simple, understandable, and made for life it is something new and at the same time normal. At least for most businesses I know.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">It is a concept that can make the foundations of each company. It offers tremendous options for change. The model goes from the idea to the adaptation of it. In short, it allows experimentation which is essential in the business environment.</p>

Jasna Andrić presents her work for Deloskop

During the summer, I will focus on the design of my own brand of ready-made objects.

<p style="text-align:justify;">May Day will be hard-working for me, because in the beginning of May director Metod Pevec will launch the film <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2597726/" target="_blank">Vaje v objemu</a> where I designed the visual identity. It may be necessary to change some details of the film&#8217;s visual identity, to Metod as a director details are of great importance. The film is quite &#8216;winterish&#8217;, that&#8217;s why the hugs are strong .</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Very interesting experience for me is the work with the National Institute of Biology and the Municipality of Ljubljana, which will soon publish a book Birds of Ljubljana and its surroundings. The book will present 268 species of birds observed in the last 300 years in the wider Slovenian capital, among them the 174 most common types described in detail and illustrated with a photograph. Most of the fieldwork was carried out by the <a href="www.ptice.si/" target="_blank">DOPPS &#8211; BirdLife Slovenia</a>. The book will be a combination of manual and monographs in two languages​​. It&#8217;s my pleasure that I am a member of this versatile bunch.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">As is often design the wine labels and winemakers identities, on June 1st I&#8217;ll participate in the closing ceremony of the wine campaign for the magazine Nedeljski dnevnik in <a href="http://www.belakrajina.si/en" target="_blank">Bela Krajina</a> with a mini exhibition and lecture about &#8216;when the grapes are still on the branch &#8211; think about the label&#8217;. I&#8217;ll talk about unusual experiences I&#8217;ve had with winemakers in the design of wine labels.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">During the summer, I will focus on the design of my own brand of ready-made objects.</p>

Ljubljana, May 10th, 2013- Call for proposal for European design innovation platform acknowledges that design is a key discipline and activity to bring ideas to the market, transforming them into user-friendly and appealing products or services.
The Innovation Union Europe’s 2020 flagship initiative recognizes the importance of capitalising on Europe’s creative potential and in the particular the role of design as a key discipline to bring ideas to the market. The published call has the objective to accelerate the take-up of design in innovation policies at European, national and regional levels and to promote the increased use of design in European industry as well as in the public sector to promote value creation, competitiveness and efficient use of resources. A special emphasis is put on closing the divide between the advanced regions and those lagging behind in applying design-driven innovation.
The deadline for submission of proposals is July 2nd, 2013 at 17:00:00 Brussels local time.

<p style="text-align:justify;">Ljubljana, May 10th, 2013- Call for proposal for European design innovation platform acknowledges that design is a key discipline and activity to bring ideas to the market, transforming them into user-friendly and appealing products or services.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">The published call recognises that design applied to services, systems and organisations and especially, <a class="zem_slink" title="User-centered design" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User-centered_design" target="_blank" rel="wikipedia">user-centred design</a> thinking drives <a class="zem_slink" title="Business model innovation" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Business_model_innovation" target="_blank" rel="wikipedia">business model innovation</a>, organisational innovation and other forms of non-technological innovation. These methodologies may also be instrumental in strategic policy decision making processes, when addressing complex and systemic challenges.</p>
<h1 style="text-align:justify;">Context</h1>
<p style="text-align:justify;">The Innovation Union Europe&#8217;s 2020 flagship initiative recognizes the importance of capitalising on Europe&#8217;s creative potential and in the particular the role of design as a key discipline to bring ideas to the market. In line with the commitment taken in the Innovation Union strategy, the European Design Innovation Initiative was launched in 2011 to exploit the full potential of <a class="zem_slink" title="Design Driven Innovation: Changing the Rules of Competition by Radically Innovating What Things Mean" href="http://www.amazon.com/Design-Driven-Innovation-Competition-Innovating/dp/1422124827%3FSubscriptionId%3D0G81C5DAZ03ZR9WH9X82%26tag%3Dzem-20%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3D1422124827" target="_blank" rel="amazon">design-driven innovation</a> and to reinforce the link between design, innovation and competitiveness.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">The policy recommendations of the European Design Leadership Board address six areas for strategic action:</p>

<li>Differentiating European design on the global stage;</li>
<li>Positioning design within the European innovation system;</li>
<li>Design for innovative and competitive enterprises;</li>
<li>Design for an innovative public sector</li>
<li>Positioning design research for the 21st century;</li>
<li>Design competencies for the 21st century.</li>

<p style="text-align:justify;">To accelerate the take-up of design in innovation policies at European, national and regional levels and to promote the increased use of design in European industry as well as in the public sector to promote value creation, competitiveness and efficient use of resources. <p style="text-align:justify;">From increased awareness, better access to information, circulation of experiences, competencies, capacities for SMEs, interaction and co-laboration, increased use in public services and administration, spill over effects and continuous dialogue among stakeholders (incl. European Comission) of design driven innovation.</p>

<li>Work package on advocating design-driven innovation</li>
<li>Work package on information and web platform</li>
<li>Work package on supporting the improvement of design capabilities in enterprises</li>
<li>Work package on supporting the design capabilities in the public sector</li>

<li>At least one consortium partner has a solid knowledge of and experience in support services for public sector organisations to apply design-driven innovation.</li>
<li>All participating bodies have the necessary expertise and resources to carry out the proposed activities.</li>
<li>The project coordinator has a proven experience in animating and steering multi-national consortium of the relevant size.</li>

<p style="text-align:justify;">GSK was formed in 2000 when Glaxo Wellcome plc and SmithKline Beecham merged, but the combined histories of the two companies go back centuries.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Company headquarters is in Great Britain and they have production facilities across Europe and in the United States of America. They are present also in Slovenia.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">GSK&#8217;s mission is to improve the quality of life for people to do more, feel better and live longer.</p>
